5 Days in Hong Kong & Macau: Must-See Attractions & Itinerary
HONGKONG 2024
John and I stayed for five days, while my sisters extended their stay until the 27th. The trip started on December 19, and it flew by so quickly! As I write this in January 2025, I already miss Hong Kong. If I were you, BOOK YOUR HONG KONG TRIP! No second thoughts. Let’s dive into it—but first, here are some essential travel tips!
The best time to visit Hong Kong is during autumn (September to November). The weather is pleasant with comfortable temperatures, plenty of sunshine, and gentle breezes—perfect for outdoor activities and sightseeing.

English and Cantonese are widely spoken.
Hong Kong uses Type G power sockets. Don’t forget to bring an adapter!
We never rode a taxi—we relied on trains in Hong Kong and buses in Macau. Trains are incredibly cheap and convenient. To use the train system in Hong Kong, you’ll need an Octopus Card. These can be purchased upon arrival at the airport or through Klook for a cheaper and faster transaction (avoiding long queues in busy areas!).
We got ours from Klook and picked them up at the airport counters. Octopus Cards are reloadable at train stations. If you don’t have an Octopus Card, you can use any VISA card to tap in at train stations. For easy navigation, download the MTR app to guide you through train destinations.

Similar to the Octopus Card, we purchased our e-SIM via Klook and picked it up at the airport. I chose the e-SIM option, which was so convenient! No need to swap out your SIM cards; you simply scan a QR code, and voila—you have internet access for the entire trip.
I highly recommend this as it provides unlimited data for both Hong Kong and Macau. Just remember to turn off your Philippine SIM and enable roaming for the e-SIM to work seamlessly.

The location was perfect, surrounded by restaurants and shopping areas—right in the heart of the action. However, finding the stay was a bit tricky and tiring. The room itself was basic but fine for a short trip: a standard bed with air conditioning and a hot shower. It’s suitable if you’re just looking for a place to sleep and freshen up. While the bed was small for John and me, it would probably be fine for solo travelers.
Itinerary & Activities
Day 1: Exploring Kowloon
Since we stayed in Kowloon, we spent the first day strolling around the city and hunting for food. In the evening, we enjoyed some delicious street food.
Buns- VERY FAMOUS! must try! |
Day 2: Lantau Island Adventure
We visited Puff Bakery, hands down the BEST bakery in Kowloon! We had breakfast at a cozy spot opposite the cafe.
Later, we embarked on a Lantau Day Trip, which we booked via Klook. It was super convenient, and we even upgraded to a crystal cabin on the cable car for an extra fee. Booking through Klook saved us money compared to purchasing tickets onsite.

Day 3: Disneyland Day
This was Disneyland Day! We spent the entire day there, and it was both exhausting and magical. We booked our tickets through Klook, which I highly recommend since tickets tend to sell out last minute. To get there, we took a train to Disney Island. If you’re unsure, the MTR app or station signs are super detailed—you won’t get lost.
Pro Tips for Disneyland:
- Book an early pass to enter the main park an hour before the general public. This gives you time to take photos and explore before the crowds.
- If you have extra cash, invest in fast passes for popular rides. Use the Disneyland app to purchase fast passes and check wait times. We bought fast passes for over five rides, which allowed us to skip long lines and save time.
- DO NOT miss the Lion King show! THE BEST!
- Wear your comfiest footwear—your feet will thank you!

Day 4: Macau Day Trip
We took a Macau Day Trip. Many people wonder why you need to pass immigration before heading to Macau; it’s because Macau is a Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China with its own immigration controls.

Day 5: Departure
It was bittersweet leaving Hong Kong, but the memories we made will last a lifetime.
